I mentioned this fact in my question. From there attaching to the process and breaking in no longer throws the "Cannot obtain value…" error. Un-ticking the optimise code checkbox for the release version in the class library properties, just while I am writing it, has solved the issue. To be frank, this tip didn't work for me for some reason, but I guess it's still worth mentioning. this contact form

As an example, when a thread is sitting on Task.Wait(), this comes up. It doesn't directly relate to the code optimization, but with this enabled, VS no longer optimizes my library and I can debug. or at least, disable optimizations while you debug. I uninstalled the service in question.
